It is Leia, and not Han, who dies in Force Awakens. Yoda spoke of another in Empire and that was Leia. She dies when Ren finishes what Vader started and kills the last Princess of Alderaan. Han and Chewie then go after the New Order. Luke comes out of hiding when he feels the disturbance in the Force.

I would be shocked if they killed any of the original cast.

I’ve heard speculation that Luke is killed with some solid reasoning behind it.

Cool shot, but how is she not burned by the close proximity of the blade to exposed skin?

no one really wants to see Mark Hamill on screen anymore?

I bet it’s Han. Why?

Because Harrison is expensive. Carrie and Mark will work for peanuts. They needed Han to sell the movie. Han will die in the second scene.

All three of them were paid the same amount.

I’ve heard that he probably won’t be even this movie much at all. He will be featured in 8 and 9.

In the EU novels, Chewie is killed like 30-40 years after the movies take place. Force awakens is set in the same timeframe.

Just sayin’.

The problem is, unless they’re going for a George Lucas “It’s like poetry, it rhymes” sort of thing, you’re basically pulling the same stunt at the beginning of each trilogy: The wise, experienced Jedi is killed. With this, however, it would mean (unless he taught Leia) that there are no more Jedi in the galaxy to teach the ways of the force to new characters. I just don’t think it’s likely...

The EU no longer exists. This is Disney Star Wars now, and Chewie is WAY too marketable to get killed off any time soon. My grandkids will be playing with Chewbacca action figures.

Odds are they could only keep her sober for so long while shooting and opted at the 11th hour to kill her off to save having to cast her in episode 8.

He will also be 74 next year. And you KNOW they don’t want to kill off Han Solo offscreen. Han will die. It’s who Rey is crying over.

Chewie will also die it’s why Leia is sad. They are who will be sacrificed.

Han is Rey’s uncle. Luke is her father, who had to go into hiding because he was being hunted. The question for this trilogy is again a mirror of the original trilogy, who is Rey’s mother?

Han has been watching over Rey a long time, she just didn’t know that he was her uncle.

Kylo is a clone of Anakin, but I don’t think that will be revealed this film.

My gut reaction is one of the kids of Han and Leia is killed, maybe one not played up in the previews, but maybe it is Rey. That brief glimpse of Leia in the trailer looks like something particularly horrible has just happened to her. This is what brings Luke out of retirement. But perhaps he, too is killed since it looks like he’s something of the Obi-wan in this movie.

Shocked, yes.. but I’ll be surprised if they don’t. While nostalgically they need to be included in the sequels, they are quite the baggage for the studio and writers. If you include them too much, they’ll take the spot light over the newer actors, Ford, Hamill, and Fisher can easily act so good that over shadows the main cast and story. Remember the first Harry Potter?

Not saying they will kill Han Solo, because I think his character is actually rather easy to include into the newer movies versus Luke or Leia. If Luke shows up all the time and be mentoring the new characters all the time, it takes away the sense of urgency, because as we know it Luke is almost like a god. By now he would have plenty of Jedi wisdom and weld the force as easily as breathing. With Luke in the picture all the time, it’s like having a story of Robin (from Batman), tagging along Superman. Luke would become what Obi-Wan was in the prequel. The prequel was suppose to be the story of Anikin Skywwalker, but it turned out to be the story of Obi-Wan. Leia is about the same with the wisdom bit, just none of the combat.

Han is perfect to tag along with because while he has wits he doesn’t really have wisdom. And the new Jedi’s would need to differentiate and adjust to things they pick up from Han that may lead to the dark side. It’s why Luke and Han made such a good duo in the original Star Wars. You do everything the “right” way, the Jedi way, and you won’t get things done efficiently. You do things the Han Solo way but with your strength in the force you easily lead to the dark side. That struggle of temptation to make the easy decision is what made Luke such a good character to watch.
